Aeschila was scribe to Ibn Qa’aat. Some scholars on the line of al-Sa’di believe him to be of Turkish origin, and give his place of birth in Anatolia (Nadham, 1999, 297). Bausani (2002, 145-146) places him in Egypt; he must have passed on some of his skill to the other two scribes, and was also one of those who guided Muhammad al-Fath in the composition of his first Dasa’ir of Masnavi (ibid., 192). 3) He had the special talent to write from memory. Thus he is reported to have dictated in Dawa’il al-Khilafa the reply to Baraka’a al-Adhari and Sayyid Hasan al-Adhari (ibid., 147). In fact, the Dawa’il is ascribed to al-Qa’b di-Shimat (ibid., 152). The art of Safah is The Book of Love, which has had numerous initiates and endowed many scribes. The art of Sufah is doubtless the initiatic dimension of this art (ibid., 153). 9) He wrote the Commentary on Gharib al-Athar by Abu Ali Ibn Hibban. This work was later to be modified to become what would finally be known as the Musta’inat of al-Ghita’i. 10) He was the last of the seven masters of calligraphy who are recorded by al-Nadim and al-Akhbar. He is also included in the list of the personalities who composed the Biographical Dictionary of al-Shirbini. 11) He was the author of the first written work of Arabic poetry that we have from him: the epistle Addictory and Consolatory Poems. 12) He used to travel between Nasibi and Syria. There are many conflicts between him and his brothers, and various circumstances justify their rift.
